Evaluation of the effectiveness of pull-out programs for meeting elementary gifted students' needs found such programs inadequate in meeting several criteria: integration with ongoing curriculum; rigorous identification procedures; daily activities; interaction with intellectual peers; pace matching and challenging students' learning rates; and teachers thoroughly trained in gifted education.
