Islands of Remorse: Amerindian Education in the Contemporary World.
Courtney, Richard
Curriculum Inquiry, v16 n1 p43-64 Spr 1986
American Indian education fails because schools force acceptance of a nonindigenous world view and ignore native people's perceptions of life, spirituality, art, time, mores, and learning practices. A University of Calgary experiment demonstrates that the creative arts, especially spontaneous drama, are more effective learning vehicles for native people. Lists 41 references. (MLH)
