Power of Nonverbal Cues in Counseling Interactions: Availability, Vividness, or Salience?
Robbins, Erica S.; Haase, Richard F.
Journal of Counseling Psychology, v32 n4 p502-13 Oct 1985
Tested three explanations for the differential impact of verbal and nonverbal cues on perceptions of counselor expertness, attractiveness, and trustworthiness: cue availability, vividness, and salience-vividness. Results suggest cue availability is not a compelling explanation for the power of nonverbal communications, vividness accounts for differential cue effectiveness, and salience is not a prerequisite for vividness.
