Self-Presentational Determinants of Sex Differences in Leadership Behavior.
Forsyth, Donelson R.; And Others
Small Group Behavior, v16 n2 p197-210 May 1985
Men and women (N=143) in leadership positions communicated information about their skills and abilities to subordinates. Results showed self-presentations of ability were determined by sex role stereotypes rather than situational factors. Male leaders emphasized their task abilities, female leaders their interpersonal, socioemotional abilities. Group members felt task ability was a more important skill. (Author/BH)
