The Mother-Child Relationship and Other Antecedents of Academic Performance: A Causal Analysis.
McGowan, Ronald J.; Johnson, Dale L.
Hispanic Journal of Behavioral Sciences, v6 n3 p205-24 Sep 1984
Observational measures of mother-child interaction, home environment, demographic variables, and maternal attitudes were used in developing two causal models for classroom and achievement test performance for 86 Mexican American children. Mothers most strongly promoted academic competence by serving as appropriate role models and encouraging an intellectually responsive and inquisitive attitude. (Author/NQA)
