Examines variables associated with hospital diagnosis of child abuse and with the proportion of cases subsequently reported to child protection agencies. Reveals that, compared to other agencies, hospitals identified children who were Black and had more serious injuries. Asserts that reporting of child abuse is biased by class and race. (KH)
