Oral Language and Reading: How Are They Related for Third Graders?

An investigation of relationships between oral language and reading comprehension of 77 third graders indicated moderate to strong relationships between specific linguistic components of oral language and reading comprehension and between expressive and receptive oral language performance and reading comprehension. Findings supported a functional relationship between oral language and reading. (Author/CL)
