Trends in Class Identification among Black Americans from 1952 to 1978.
Cannon, Lynn Weber
Social Science Quarterly, v65 n1 p112-26 Mar 1984
Throughout the post-World War II period, Black people had clearly perceived class divisions. Study results indicated that objective status and class improvements for many Blacks from 1952 to 1978 more than doubled the percentage who identified themselves as middle-class--from 10 percent in 1952 to 22 percent in 1978.
