Academic Freedom and Social Criticism in the 1930s.
Abbott, Frank
Interchange on Education, v14-15 n4-1 p107-23 1983-84
During the 1930s in Canada, teaching and research in the universities were conducted in the belief that truth was attained only through free inquiry, rigorous criticism of competing theories, and the deployment of arguments untainted by dogmatism and appeals to authority. Problems that university scholars had when they were outspoken in their criticism of society are discussed. (CJB)
