It is proposed that nonprofit institutions having trouble raising funds often have a board that is indifferent, distracted by other commitments, or unwilling to face up to its fund-raising responsibility. Five fundamental principles of fund-raising that focus on donor attitudes are outlined, and specific problems of board participation are discussed. (MSE)
