Mothers' Perceptions of Infant Distress Vocalizations.
Petrovich-Bartell, Nina; And Others
Journal of Speech and Hearing Research, v25 n3 p371-76 Sep 1982
Psychological and acoustic properties of the distress vocalizations of five infants were rated on a scale from "definitely fuss" to "definitely cry" by mothers on two home visits. Analyses revealed that mothers rated infant vocalizations reliably along a fuss-cry continuum, both immediately and three weeks later. (Author/CL)
