Parents Coping with Genetically Handicapped Children: Use of Early Recollections.
Fairfield, Barbara
Exceptional Children, v49 n5 p411-15 Feb 1983
Early childhood recollections of handicapped persons by 58 parents of genetically disordered children were analyzed for adjustment implications. Examples of negative and positive recollections are cited, and counseling suggestions given. While 50 percent of the parents reported positive current attitudes toward their child's disorder, only 22 percent of their early recollections were positive. (CL)
