The purpose of the present experiment was to compare the effects of conceptual and orthographic distinctiveness on recall, clustering, and subjects' verbal reports of mnemonic strategies. Although recall was facilitated by both conceptual and orthographic isolation, the two manipulations produced clear differences in the other dependent measures. (Author/PN)
