An Inquiry into the Positive Personal and Social Effects of Old Age Stereotypes among the Elderly.
Kearl, Michael C.
International Journal of Aging and Human Development, v14 n4 p277-90 1981-82
Presents an alternative perspective to age stereotypes called relative advantage. Using results of a 1975 survey of older adults, suggests that stereotypes can improve life satisfaction among those who perceive themselves as better off. Found the severity of problems attributed to others correlated with support for aging coalitions. (JAC)
