Analysis of attitudes of 102 university students enrolled in an introductory special education course toward educable and trainable mentally retarded students revealed that attitudes were situation specific, with differences appearing only when the situation was personally relevant. The advantages of multidimensional scaling techniques were demonstrated. (CL)
