Fitzpatrick, Mary Anne; Bochner, Arthur
Sex Roles: A Journal of Research, v7 n5 p523-35 May 1981
Results of two studies indicated: (1) males perceived themselves as more controlling and detached while females saw themselves as more nurturant and dependent in their communicative behavior; (2) the discriminating dimensions for same sex friendships were attention-seeking and self- dramatizing communication behaviors, but in opposite sex relationships were nurturance and dependency.
