Cognitive Dissonance and Internalization of Social Norms: Effects of Threat Severity on Children.
Amerio, Piero; And Others
International Journal of Behavioral Development, v1 n4 p355-62 Dec 1978
Investigates cognitive consistency in social behavior among 90 preschool children. Finds that the smaller the incentive used to induce subjects to perform a counterattitudinal act, the greater the change in their attitudes toward the act. Suggests minimal external justification by others so children can reduce dissonance through self-justification. (RH)
