Ethnic identity can move beyond the simple equations, which state that it is lessened as higher mobility is achieved and vice-versa. An alternative hypothesis suggests that individuals who have achieved higher mobility have a positive ethnic identity, whereas individuals who have not have a negative ethnic identity. (Author/EB)
