Radio's Black Heritage: "Destination Freedom," 1948-1950
MacDonald, J. Fred
Phylon, 39, 1, 66-73, Spr 78
Throughout the so-called Golden Age of radio broadcasting, 1920-1950, Afro-Americans were prevented from developing normally within the medium. The appearance of Richard Durham's "Destination Freedom" in 1948 represents a striking incongruity, the social message of the program being essentially the struggle for civil rights. (Author/GC)
