Advocates the planning of the future of science education rather than predicting or describing it (after the occurrence). Future planning is based on the assumptions that: (1) alternatives are possible; (2) some aspects of the future are discernable in the present; (3) to some extent the future can be directed; and (4) intelligent decisions are based on looking at alternatives. Several future plans for science education are proposed and evaluated on a desirability/feasibility grid. (CP)
