Career Sex-Atypicality and Career Involvement of College Educated Women: Baseline Evidence from the 1960's
Bielby, Denise D.
Sociology of Education, 51, 1, 7-28, Jan 78
Examines factors affecting career continuity of college-educated women who are pursuing sex-atypical careers. A longitudinal study of 1685 female college graduates from 1961 indicated that significant determinants of sex-atypical career involvements are: (1) quality and type of schooling and (2) previous involvement with sex-atypical career fields. Effects of marital and family commitments are also discussed. (Author/AV)
