Student and Teacher Perceptions of the Degree of Difficulty in a Mathematics Course

The aim of this study was to examine the degree of correlation between student and staff optimism with respect to student achievement for the first- and second-year engineering mathematics course. The students entering the first year seem to have been more optimistic about their mathematics and less in agreement with staff perceptions than the students entering the second year. (MN)
