PURSES: Project to Upgrade Reading Skills through English and Social Studies is described. It investigated whether tenth grade students, who have measurable reading skill deficiencies, would show significant improvement in reading abilities when put into classes with specially trained teachers who incorporate the teaching of reading skills into the teaching of their specific subject areas.
