Academic Inbreeding in Nursing
Miller, Michael H.
Nursing Outlook, 25, 3, 172-177, Mar 77
Academic inbreeding, the employment for faculty positions of persons who receive their graduate training at the same academic institution, is considered detrimental to an institution's academic environment. Results of a study conducted at 54 universities revealed that almost half the faculty (48 percent) in collegiate nursing programs are drawn from a school's graduates as opposed to the 39 percent in social programs and the 31 percent in education programs.
