The impact of the Copyright Revision Act of 1976 on copying services supplied by many college stores is assessed. It is suggested that even unsupervised photocopying of copyrighted books and periodicals may constitute vicarious infringement by the store, but that in an academic environment, photocopying may constitute defensible "fair use."
