It's a Wrap: A New Dimension for Sinusoids
Wan, Anna; Ivy, Jessica
Mathematics Teacher: Learning and Teaching PK-12, v114 n6 p473-476 Jun 2021
In high school, students extend understanding of linear and exponential functions and explore trigonometric functions. This includes using the unit circle to connect trigonometric functions to their geometric foundation, modeling periodic phenomena, and applying (and proving) trigonometric identities. These ideas are fundamental for trigonometric applications found in calculus. In this article, the authors share a task connecting the features of sinusoids to oblique cylinders, including aspects of the activity that can be enhanced through three-dimensional (3D) modeling and printing.
