A Survey of Grade 5 and 6 Pupils' Attitudes toward Reading
Reading Psychology, v41 n3 p229-239 2020
Using the adapted version of the Elementary Reading Attitudes Survey by McKenna and Kear, 177 Grades 5-6 pupils in Bamban, Tarlac were surveyed to determine their attitudes toward reading. The survey confirmed the hypothesis that gender is indeed a determinant of the pupils' attitudes toward reading. While girls were found to have more positive attitudes toward reading, it was also found that as age increases, positive reading attitudes decline. This poses a challenge to educators in providing opportunities to develop more permanent positive attitudes toward reading as a lifelong habit.
