Servant Leadership and Principal Preparation: A Christian University Perspective
Hylen, Michael G.; Willian, Lewis
Journal of Character Education, v16 n1 p13-25 2020
Servant Leadership substantiates the truth that through service to others, while leading others, individuals fulfill a longing for living virtuous lives. This study evaluated the impact of a principal preparation program on candidate self-perception of five dispositional skills associated with servant leadership. To determine the impact of the program, candidates (N = 86) were asked to rate themselves on five dispositional skills associated with servant leadership through a 75-question survey administered during the first course, and again during the last course of a principal certification program. We found that there was a statistically significant growth, F(1, 85) = 9.427, p < 0.05, in overall candidate dispositions. Subsequent testing of individual dispositions revealed that there was a statistically significant difference between the pretest and post-test results in four of the five individual dispositions. Only Moral and Ethical Integrity (t = -1.9267, p = 0.0573) did not demonstrate a statistically significant growth.
