The Science behind the 'Wow' Factor of Outdoor Learning
Spring, Helen
Primary Science, n159 p15-17 Sep 2019
In this article, Helen Spring explains how a 'wow' activity is a great place to start learning outside the classroom. It will enthuse both children and staff. Teachers new to outdoor learning can start with something simple like having students use double-sided sticky tape to collect as many colours as they can from the school grounds. Then look for the obvious curriculum links: take the students outdoors to look at parts of a plant or to learn about seasons and habitats. Once teachers have developed confidence in leading activities outdoors, they can start to incorporate further outdoor learning opportunities into their long-term planning.
