How to Get to NASA and Other HIP Advice: Librarian Caroline Coward Talks about What the Jet Propulsion Laboratory Looks for When Hiring
Aragoni, Christen
Liberal Education, v105 n3-4 Sum-Fall 2019
In this interview with Caroline Coward, Library Group supervisor for JPL's Enterprise and Information Systems Engineering Section, Coward discusses her own career journey, the importance of high-impact practices, and what employers--specifically NASA and JPL--look at when hiring interns and recent graduates. Other topics discussed include how a liberal education helped Coward land her first library job, how liberal educators can foster qualities such as tenacity, and curiosity, and the importance of low tech abilities versus high tech ones. The article closes with Coward's views on why failure matters in a working environment where everyone is often too afraid to fail.
