The School Experience of Gay Male Youth
Bailey, Dustin
Curriculum and Teaching Dialogue, v17 n1-2 p69-83 2015
Bullying and harassment threatens the safety, learning, and personal growth of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) students in many high schools in the United States. Such problems are attributed to a heterosexist school culture that is silent towards LGBTQ students and their concerns, making them an invisible sexual minority. This qualitative study delves into the experiences and insights of fi ve gay youths who experienced bullying and harassment, highlighting their perspectives about school climate dimensions within a heteronormative culture.
