"Keep It Real & Love 'Em Up": Student-Teacher Relationships in an Urban Middle School
Masko, Amy L.
Curriculum and Teaching Dialogue, v20 n1-2 p35-51 2018
This chapter describes a qualitative study investigating how student-teacher relationships intersect with school climate in an urban middle school. Findings indicate that care is at the center of the relationships, which establishes a climate in the school that teachers describe as having a "family atmosphere." The implications of this research further the discussion in the field of urban education about the function of high expectations that are grounded in caring relationships between students and teachers.
