Wraparound: A Key Component of School-Wide Culture Competence to Support Academics and Socio-Emotional Well-Being
Hill, Ruth Alisha
Peabody Journal of Education, v95 n1 p66-72 2020
This article reviews research on "wraparound" or "community schools" models by discussing the benefits, current educational needs, and measures of success for the models. It examines research on learner outcomes related to the program models in areas of students' academic achievement and finds generally positive outcomes on a variety of variables associated with wraparound programs. The application of wraparound strategies is described via examples of local, statewide, and national initiatives. These programs suggest wraparound services can improve the school's effectiveness in serving students with, or at risk of, academic, emotional, and behavioral challenges. The conclusions propose the need for government officials, schools, and systems to consider programs that offer wraparound services.
