Civic Agency and Political Engagement: Community Engagement's Enduring Influence
Mitchell, Tania D.; Rost-Banik, Colleen; Battistoni, Richard M.
Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice, v56 n5 p582-594 2019
Through in-depth interviews and focus groups with alumni from three institutions, the authors of this qualitative study explore the contours and desires of political engagement postgraduation. Giving credit to their respective community engagement programs, alumni illustrate their enduring commitments to civic and political action by participating in formal politics, integrating civic dimensions into their careers, and seeing community building as political action. Implications for practice are discussed.
