Making the Invisible Visible: The Enduring Essence of Student Affairs
Taylor, Simone Himbeault
Journal of College and Character, v20 n4 p279-286 2019
In this article, the author explores the essence of student affairs and its enduring nature. She argues that while the vehicles for delivering the work of student affairs may evolve over time, the essential work is well-defined, principled, and lasting. She turns to the 1937 "Student Personnel Point of View" philosophy for the cornerstone undergirding and affirming student affairs' role as intrinsically woven into the higher education mission. While approaches to developing the whole student toward contribution to the greater good may (and should) alter over time, the educational essence of student affairs's purpose endures.
