Enacting Spatial Visualisation: Investigating the Relationship between Surface Area and Volume of Cubes
Patahuddin, Sitti Maesuri; Ramful, Ajay; Lowrie, Tom
Australian Mathematics Education Journal, v1 n3 p18-22 2019
Spatial visualisation is an essential component of geometric thinking and measurement sense. It is a particular type of spatial skill that involves manipulation of spatial images and may not be naturally occurring for students. However, research shows that it is malleable and can be developed through instruction. This article presents an open-ended activity to foster spatial visualisation as students explore the relationship between the surface area and volume of cube blocks.
