Facing the Elephant: Let's Talk about Art-on-a-Cart
Art Education, v72 n6 p14-19 2019
Art-on-a-cart is the teaching of art from a rolling cart by a teacher without a designated classroom. Mobile, the art-on-a-cart teacher moves from classroom to classroom, implementing art curriculum from the position of a visitor. Contrary to popular belief, art-on-a-cart is not a working condition primarily of new teachers. It can affect any teacher, including those with tenure who have taught in dedicated classrooms, and is not confined to urban districts. A lack of research and professional development has kept the discussion of art-on-a-cart caught in a time warp--stagnant and unchanging. Art teachers need solid research and subsequent resources and professional development to deal with art-on-a-cart as a, if not desirable, viable working condition.
