How Principals Can Support New Teachers
Whitaker, Todd; Good, Madeline Whitaker; Whitaker, Katherine
Educational Leadership, v77 n1 p50-54 Sep 2019
Being a new teacher is especially stressful and overwhelming: classroom management challenges, lack of administrator support, work-related stress, and feelings of isolation are pushing some to leave the profession all too soon. There are five actions, however, that principals can take to make new teachers a priority now, explain the authors of Your First Year (Routledge, 2016). Specifically, principals must be in new teachers' classrooms from day one, intentionally assign mentors, reduce isolation, assist with classroom management, and give permission to say no.
