Overview of the Census Bureau: The Other Nine Years
Loftin, Lacey E.
Geography Teacher, v16 n3 p103-106 2019
The U.S. Census Bureau is the federal government's largest statistical agency. Located within the Department of Commerce, their mission is to serve as the leading provider of quality data about the nation's people and economy. However, when most people hear the word "census," they associate it with an enumeration of the population conducted each decade since 1790. While the decennial census is the largest and most visible effort by the Census Bureau, throughout the decade they conduct surveys, produce estimates and projections, maintain geography and addresses, and disseminate their data and products. This article provides an overview of the Bureau's statistical programs as well as data tools and apps.
