Learn Spanish and Work in Mexico: A How-to Guide for School Psychologists
Randall, Jake
Communique, v47 n8 p8-9 Jun 2019
Working as a school psychologist in Mexico is possible, even with no previous experience speaking Spanish. After graduate school, the author knew there would be no better time to go. He deferred his student loan repayments, enrolled in Spanish classes at a public Mexican university, and later got a job as a school psychologist in a private, bilingual, pre-k-12 school in Mexico City. Given the lack of information readily available, and the immense rewards to reap from such an experience, the author proposes a basic "how-to" guide in the hopes that more school psychologists from the United States venture out of their comfort zone, and out of the country, to learn from and support their neighbors in Mexico. Indeed, while the information presented in this article is focused on experiences in Mexico, it may prove useful for job searches in any foreign country.
