Faculty Development for FYS Courses in Learning Communities
Sperry, Rita; Hawkinson, Chelsie
Journal of Faculty Development, v33 n2 p57-62 May 2019
Faculty training and development for First-Year Seminar (FYS) faculty at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) is conducted in the form of training workshops, bi-annual teaching institutes, and various professional development opportunities. Facilitated workshop content is based on student-centered teaching and learning theories. Situated within First-Year Learning Communities Program, FYS faculty development continues throughout the year in embedded professional learning communities made up of collaborative learning community teaching partners. The contextualized model at TAMU-CC challenges FYS faculty to pursue collective student learning outcomes in unison with faculty across a wide range of disciplines.
