Competencies Lay a Clear Path
Boerner, Heather
Community College Journal, v89 n5 p25-29 Apr-May 2019
The purpose of the American Association of Community Colleges' (AACC) Competencies for Community College Leaders is to guide the development of emerging leaders and to assist colleges with the selection of employees dedicated to the community college mission, vision, and values. Recently after over two years, college presidents on the AACC's Commission on Leadership and Professional Development, examined and expanded the Competencies for Community College Leaders to include more college types of leaders, and to open more paths to the presidency. To celebrate the release of the updated competencies, the "Community Colleges Journal" thought to ask some college presidents and aspiring college presidents what the competencies mean to them and how they use them to help steer their colleges, students and local economies to success.
