This study investigates a novel approach to training first-year science faculty students in laboratory safety and ethical awareness. Students were exposed to videos of laboratory incidents via their smartphones. They had to respond to the scenarios by scanning QR codes transfixed on certain equipment or taking photos of the laboratory's surroundings. Student responses were displayed on an online learning management system that allows instructors to give feedback and initiate in-class discussion. The evaluation suggested that the high contextual interference approach helped arouse students' interest in laboratory safety and ethics and, hence, facilitated skill acquisition and theory delivery on the subject matter.
