Collaboration versus Individual Endeavors in the Curriculum
Ediger, Marlow
Education, v132 n1 p217-220 Fall 2011
Which is the better approach in pupil learning--working together in collaborative situations or working by the self in ongoing learning activities? Howard Gardner (1993), Harvard University psychologist, emphasized that these are two different intelligences. Collaboration is preferred by selected pupils in learning. These learners do best when working in a small group to complete ongoing activities and experiences. Individuals working by the self may have this intelligence as a preference. Individually, pupil achievement is at a higher level as compared to working cooperatively with others.
