Effective Evaluation of Developmental Education: A Mathematics Example
Wheeler, Sara W.; Bray, Nathaniel
Journal of Developmental Education, v41 n1 p10-12, 14-17 Fall 2017
This study examined whether a correlation was present between demographic variables and academic success at a two-year institution in Alabama. Developmental status, gender, and race were compared with pass/fail status in the first college-level math class and graduation status. Results indicated that the developmental math classes were effective because the developmental students performed as well as the non-developmental group in each of the variables on academic success tested. This study concluded that developmental status, gender, and race were related to student success outcomes of college-level math pass/fail status and graduation status.
