Understanding What Binds Teachers Together: Workplace Culture amongst EFL Teachers in Thailand
Mongkolhutthi, Preechaya
Educational Forum, v82 n4 p406-424 2018
This study explores the work culture of a group of English as a Foreign Language lecturers in Thailand. The data revealed a unique pattern of work culture, subsequently named "workplace-kinship." This subgrouping behavior stemmed from similar social ties (e.g., native language and contractual status) rather than competition and protection of interests. The concept of workplace-kinship moves the theoretical understanding of the workplace division beyond a focus on the imbalance of power to what binds teachers together.
