Visualizing Historic Networks in "Studies in Art Education"
Grodoski, Chris; Willcox, Libba; Goss, Samantha
Studies in Art Education: A Journal of Issues and Research in Art Education, v58 n1 p51-68 2017
Throughout the 56-year history of "Studies in Art Education", scholars have repeatedly articulated concern that research within the field is disconnected. Most recently this problem has been categorized as scholarly oblivion. Through the lens of network theory and data visualization techniques, the present research clarifies structural relationships that animated the first decade of "Studies in Art Education" (1959-1968). This article reveals scholarly oblivion as a structural feature within the first decade of the journal, while providing an improved means to archive historic research for access and analysis, thereby improving the connection between art education's research past to its present.
