Interfaith Capacity Building
Conway, J. M.
Journal of College and Character, v19 n3 p236-242 2018
What does it take to cultivate a campus culture that reflects a commitment to worldview diversity? As religious and philosophical diversity grows, administrators are seeking ways to positively influence worldview-related experiences on campus. Interfaith capacity-building trainings are an important way for colleges and universities to proactively influence the campus climate for interfaith engagement. Whether a campus is building capacity with faculty and staff so they might facilitate meaningful interactions across difference or supporting campus efforts to provide worldview accommodations, approaching this work in a thoughtful, contextually, and culturally relevant way is paramount. The author demonstrates the need for interfaith capacity building on college campuses, shares a model training program, highlights training examples from three American colleges and universities, and distills a set of considerations and best practices for implementation across the field.
