Online Content Instruction in School Psychology Training
Fischer, Aaron J.; Moy, Gregory E.; Robbins, Stacey E.
Communique, v47 n1 p20-21 Sep 2018
In December 2017, an article in "Communiqué" on online education in school psychology training provided a primer on key concepts and terminology (Dixon, 2017). The authors continue their discussion of online education in this article by focusing on the application of online learning as a modality to deliver content instruction within school psychology graduate training. Specifically, the authors describe ways that trainers can integrate online elements into their courses and increase access to education in school psychology. This article reviews the content areas in school psychology training and lays the foundation for online instruction--a learning management system (LMS). The authors discuss the application of synchronous, asynchronous, and hybrid teaching modalities and how they facilitate instruction within each content area. This article reviews the potential barriers to using online instruction and provides practical considerations to overcome those barriers. The authors also discuss future directions in delivering online instruction and highlight contemporary applications.
