Status Report on Art Therapists in Public Schools: Employment and Legislative Realities
Gonzalez-Dolginko, Beth
Art Therapy: Journal of the American Art Therapy Association, v35 n1 p19-24 2018
This report discusses current developments and status of art therapists in public schools, with recommendations for occupational titles, program effectiveness, and legislative change to identify art therapists as service providers for students with special needs. Interview results from a small sample of art therapists employed in New York State public schools describe their experiences within clinical, art education, school counseling models, and other occupational titles. Art therapists are called to help provide needed evidence-based research that can inform state and national policy advocacy efforts aimed at art therapist employment in U.S. public schools.
